“Where fall the footsteps of the Master, the ears of those ready for his Teaching open wide.” The Kybalion

According to Hermes Trismegistus, there are 7 principles which govern our collective reality. They are:

The Principle of Mentalism
The Principle of Correspondence
The Principle of Vibration
The Principle of Polarity
The Principle of Rhythm
The Principle of Cause and Effect
The Principle of Gender

The idea is that these principles are always at play, and therefore, understanding them gives you an edge; not over ‘others’, but for yourself, as you play the game of life. We are all essentially free-falling, infinitely. Even the concepts we hold onto, are free-falling. We can learn to let go; release limiting concepts, to see ‘man-made’ laws for what they are; and instead work with these fundamental governing principles so that we begin to participate consciously and creatively in our reality.

Here’s a brief description of each of the 7 principles with a reflection, observation or exercise.

The Principle of Mentalisim

“The ALL is MIND; The Universe is Mental.” - The Kybalion

This principle basically says that everything we can sense: see, hear, touch, taste, smell... is mental or Spirit. Reality is mental and controlled by the creative life force and imagination which populates the MIND.

Reflect: simple observation. Watch your flow of thoughts. Now, which do you elaborate upon, deny, get sucked into? Do you follow or choose?

The Principle of Correspondence

“As above, so below. As below, so above.” The Kybalion

This principle basically says that all dimensions of being, correspond with one another. The mysteries ‘above’ that we may not yet know or understand, can be inferred by studying the nature of our own being.

Reflect: look at your wants, needs, learnings over the course of your lifetime. Is there any reason to conclude that we ever stop ‘expanding’? Could being told that you and life are finite, be the source of all suffering?

The Principle of Vibration

“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.” - The Kybalion

Both science and spirituality confirm, everything is in motion. All ‘individual’ appearances are made up of the same fundamental substance vibrating at varying rates to give the illusion of shape and form. Many ‘scales’ have been created: David Hawkins, Fred Dodson, Madame Blavatsky to name a few who have endeavored to explain these levels of energy. It’s important to remember that it’s not necessarily that we should aim for the ‘highest state’ of energy, but perhaps to recognize what ‘state’ is required of our unique viewpoint and resources in any given circumstance, should we choose to participate in the game of life.

Exercise: pick something that happened in your past that you use to explain your behaviors in the present and find the strength in your ‘shadow’. Eg., I was always told to ‘be quiet’ and that’s why I am so reserved and don’t speak my mind. Now, change that. I was always told to ‘be quiet’, which is the reason I am such a keen observer of what is going on around me and within me and has cultivated my understanding of human psychology, so that I may help others understand their own inner nature. You just shifted your vibration. And you can do this with nearly anything, using your ATTENTION.

The Principle of Polarity

“Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, paradoxes may be reconciled.” - The Kybalion

Basically speaking, all opposites are actually the same thing, in varying degrees. This is why ‘black + white’ thinking often ends up in argument. We see the example in water, ice and steam; same substance, different degrees. When you understand this principle, you may see why ‘evil’ is really just a very small degree of love. And in this recognition, we can learn to mentally transmute our own and others’ energy or state of being.

Exercise: when you see someone angry (and it is safe to do so), try giving them a hug instead of reacting angrily back. You can see that what the person really needed was love to transmute, rather than his/her current reflection.

The Principle of Rhythm

“Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.” The Kybalion

There is a natural rhythm to all aspects of life. The idea behind this principle is to use it in your favor, simply by understanding it. Seasons, sleep/wake, creativity/action, contract/expand, etc.

Exercise: often quite natural for most people... but simply take notice when you are having a ‘rough’ time, get back to Presence/I Am, and remember that there is a rhythm. It doesn’t always stay this way. This gets you out of circumstantial mind and into peaceful, patient or even creative mind.

The Principle of Cause & Effect

“Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law.” - The Kybalion

Nothing escapes this law. There is no ‘chance’. The Master’s learnt to connect with ‘higher consciousness’ and become the determinants of cause and effect; they learnt to work with the laws. They do so for themselves and to help others play the ‘game of life’.

Observe: watch your reactions, triggers, habits. Rather than be a pawn to the rules of ‘society’ or reacting to the ‘world around you’, you can see clearly that most of our lives, the rules were created by ‘others’, and understanding this, you may now create your own. You are not a pawn, but the Witness, Observer, Source, Creator... a conscious cause to the effects. Have, Do, Be. Imagine already having, then take inspired action, then be ‘it’.

The Principle of Gender

“Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes.” - The Kybalion

No creation is possible without this principle. It is the yin and yang aspect of creation, generation and regeneration. All has within it a beautiful balance of both; but in varying expressions. Identifying too strongly with one aspect, you may note suffering, mis-alignment with true self, some form of illness.

Observe: witness your own behaviors. When are you ‘soft and allowing’, when ‘strong and setting boundaries’? And what is created during different phases. Can you access various degrees of the continuum at will? Can you feel the difference?

Exercise: imagine a simple object to draw. First draw it feeling very strong and protective and defined. Draw it again feeling soft, vulnerable and malleable. Is there a difference?

Thanks for reading. If I could say there’s one takeaway... we can imagine life as a beautiful game... a place for learning, exploring, relating, loving, and rather than take it so seriously... enjoy the journey, the lucid dream. Feel free to contact me: andrea@holovibehealing.com.
